Hi all,

I assume that after doing a clean install on one partition I can access my other partition with all my data again. Am I assuming right or do I need to backup everything? I just want to make sure I can... I did make a backup of a lot of data on another disk but the other disk is only 20 gig so I won't be able to save all..

If this does not work I need to buy me another 160Gig Sata drive and do a clean install on that one...and access the ld harddisk afterwards to get the data.

Your assumption is correct - but its always advisable backing up before doing something like this (because things can always go wrong).

Couple of things - how did you set up the current 2 partitions? (is XP installed on Partition 1 currently, and you want to replace it with clean install because of issues you've been having?). And have you got Norton's Goback installed currently?

bcastner,

at a first glance the KB article deals with the situation when I already have access to teh second partition. It will come in handy if I can access the partiotion... thanks..:)

Wolluf,

I set up the partitions as followed...

partition 1 WinXP instalation 10 Gig
partition 2 Data files. 110 gig...

I do not have norton goback installed.

I will try to back-up as much as I can. I guess I have to make choices to wich files I really need... mp3's and stuff will have to go....

Please do not misunderstand the comments above. A fresh installation to the original partition should not touch the second partition.

bcastner,

I did not misunderstand (I think) but like wolluf said.. ( in my own words) shit happens...so backing up data is not a bad thing to do...

Thanks and I will post back later tomorrow if it worked or not and what weird things I encountered...

Stuff happens.

I just wanted to be reassure you that what you plan if done with care should be perfectly safe to do.

Please keep in mind my earlier note on the consequences of a new install (new SID) and the need to assert ownership on the second partition.

I hope a Happy Thanksgiving for you,

Best wishes,
Bill Castner
