Reinstall Hotfix/S.P's after Reinstalling Terminal Services Licensing?

Hello,

I'm working on an issue with Terminal Services, and the License Server has been uninstalled. We are still in our 90 day trial period in which the License Server is supposedly not needed according to Microsoft, but I want to reinstall it and see if the original problem goes away (new first time non w2k professional clients cannot connect for the first time). The vendor we bought our servers from told me it was ok to uninstall the license server and that it won't affect anything. Another one of their techs says it will, and so do about 50% of the people who've responded to my posts on this board and others. Anyway, my real question.....

Do I need to reinstall hotfixes/service packs/roll-ups after reinstalling the License Server? The vendor that built and installed our servers said that I need to reinstall those types of things whenever I make a configuration change but didn't explain very well what a "configuration change" consists of. The reason I ask is I'd rather not have to reinstall stuff and have to reboot a few times becuase I will need to do this during the day when the server needs to be used by our employees.

Thanks!

HI!

One of the new features of Win2000 is that after installing a Service Pack, and then adding a service, Windows 2000 will automaticaly use the updated service pack files.
This was not the case with NT4.
So you don't have to reapply SP2.
What I don't know about are the other patches, but I guess that they are not related to the license service so I think that nothing will be affected.

So - my advices:
1) Reinstall the license server as soon as possible, since as you mentioned some clients cannot connect and you have to solve this.
2) Schedule for a later convinient downtime to reapply SP2 (if you just want to be sure...) and the other patches. I think it will not change anything but will give you the nice filling that you are going the right way.

Thanks for the reply! So far today I have reinstalled the license server, however that caused all working connections to fail. So, I had to uninstall the license server again just to make the 3 out of 6 clients that can actually connect, continue to connect.

Unless the free trial period of Terminal Services only provides a limited number of (3) temporary licenses, I'm thinking the problem may not be terminal services at all but instead possibly a firewall issue?
