I have changed my registry. i kept a note of the key i changed, its working value. my computer will no longer boot. it won't even startup under 'last working... '. my hard disk is now in another pc, so i can make adjustments to it. how can i restore the key?

You have to be in the original Windows to access that Windows Registry. A slight problem if you can't boot it.

Try your options with the Recovery Console and see if you can at least access the problem installation with that.

the recovery console fifn't work. it told me i was entering the wrong password (even though i log on as administrator every day, so type the password a lot).

i tried setting the registry to its default, but it still would start. on boot it told me there was a checksum error on my passowrd. this error happened before the password entry screen.

i don't really know how i could have caused such a screw up. i only changed user information.

i have now re-installed (i backed all my programs to another hard disk, they all seem to work (just about)). thank for your help anyway.

Remember that in recovery console you
get that windows versions original locale keyboard
(just in case you have special chars in the password)
