Hi All,

I recently had a spyware program which I found on my pc which I was unable to delete....after searching the net I found out how to delete it via regedit.

After browsing the registry I found things on there relating to very old programs I had uninstalled ages ago.

Is it worth running a registry cleanup program? or could this cause me more problems than its worth?

Will doing this save me any hard-drive space?

Any advice would be appreciated.

It shouldn't make a huge difference on your free HD space. The registry always gets clogged up with redundant program information. It shouldn't affect your PC performace in any way but if you think it might be, use a registry cleanup program.

I'm sure whatever reg cleaning program you use will tell you the same, but make sure your reg is backedup before messing around with it. I'm sure you appriciate how sensitie the registry is.

My advice, if it aint broke, and it's working fine, don't try messing with it. Just because there is a bit of text on your comp which relates to a program you deleted 3 years ago, desn't mean it will affect the performance of your PC.

If you're loosing sleep over it.... use a registry cleaning prog.....

None to recommend I'm afraid...

fantastic!...........I think I'll leave it be for now then, I'll only mess with it to delete spyware and adware (ie unwanted programms which McAfee highlights) which my virus guard is unable to delete.

It's not affecting my pc performance from what I can tell anyway.

Cheers for the prompt replies

I've had great luck with jv16powertools
Better than Norton, and makes it easier to delete old programs that have remnants laying around. Free 30 day trial for download.
