Is there a possible way to programatically register a ActiveX DLL or OCX, and be able to get an Error return if it did it or not, I do know how to use CreateProcess to see if a program has completed. but you never know if it was sucessful or not.
Karl
kb244@kb244.8m.com
<a href=
Experienced in , or have messed with : VC++, Borland C++ Builder, VJ++6(starting),VB-Dos, VB1 thru VB6, Delphi 3 pro, Borland C++ 3(DOS), Borland C++ 4.5, HTML,Visual InterDev 6, ASP(WebProgramming), QBasic(least i didnt start with COBOL)

Hi Karl,

Have you tried calling regsvr32 from a batch file and testing errorlevel after it has run?

(I haven't tried this - just a thought)
Mike
Mike_Lacey@Cargill.Com
<a href= Cargill's Corporate Web Site
Please don't send me email questions without posting them in Tek-Tips as well. I know all about the regsvr it is the method I am using now, only I dont know howto "test" it. I would looking for more of a programatic way, I could use loadlibrary, but that returns a pointer to a function which VB does not support.
Karl
kb244@kb244.8m.com
<a href=
Experienced in , or have messed with : VC++, Borland C++ Builder, VJ++6(starting),VB-Dos, VB1 thru VB6, Delphi 3 pro, Borland C++ 3(DOS), Borland C++ 4.5, HTML,Visual InterDev 6, ASP(WebProgramming), QBasic(least i didnt start with COBOL)

Karl,

I was thinking of a batch file like this:

regsvr32 /s
if errorlevel 1 goto errorfound
goto outahere
:errorfound
echo error found
:eek:utahere

Mike
Mike_Lacey@Cargill.Com
<a href= Cargill's Corporate Web Site
Please don't send me email questions without posting them in Tek-Tips as well. I dont know if regsvr even returns an errorlevelt, and even so , I would have to programatically call regsrv for each dll/ocx in a directory, the program doesnt statically know whats there.
But your idea seems perfect if I knew exactly what activeX controls I would be registering all the time.
Karl
kb244@kb244.8m.com
<a href=
Experienced in , or have messed with : VC++, Borland C++ Builder, VJ++6(starting),VB-Dos, VB1 thru VB6, Delphi 3 pro, Borland C++ 3(DOS), Borland C++ 4.5, HTML,Visual InterDev 6, ASP(WebProgramming), QBasic(least i didnt start with COBOL)

it does return one - as long as you do the /s thing

i was thinking you could maybe write the .bat files in a little VB app?
Mike
Mike_Lacey@Cargill.Com
<a href= Cargill's Corporate Web Site
Please don't send me email questions without posting them in Tek-Tips as well. it is possible, but it wouldnt return the error the Instalation program itself , only to the consol via "echo"
Karl
kb244@kb244.8m.com
<a href=
Experienced in , or have messed with : VC++, Borland C++ Builder, VJ++6(starting),VB-Dos, VB1 thru VB6, Delphi 3 pro, Borland C++ 3(DOS), Borland C++ 4.5, HTML,Visual InterDev 6, ASP(WebProgramming), QBasic(least i didnt start with COBOL)
