I have a tech on a customer's site trying to replace a CICS KSU, We took out a refurbed KSU and a 4.1 software card. When trying to replace the KSU it just flashes, the customer had 4.2 software he's tried both the 4.2 and the 4.1 card and neither are working. Here's my question, I don't know what software version our supplier had in this KSU for testing, but if it were higher than the 4.1 or 4.2, would the KSU see this as a downgrade and not boot up? I've never had any problems with this suppliers equipment, so I'm reluctant to accept it's a bad KSU.

Thanks for the response Senks, I'm going to add a little more to this to see what else you may think. The customer called us out today because their CICS was dead and not working. The Tech tried the customer's 4.2 software in the KSU we brought out (refurb, purchased from our supplier)and it didn't work, he then tried the KSU we brought out and the 4.1 software (we supplied, I know it was good, I pulled it out from another customer site on an upgrade). So my new question to you is, if the customer's 4.2 software was bad, could it have screwed up the KSU and that's why my 4.1 didn't work? I'm thinking I just got a bad KSU from my supplier, any opinions?

If the original software in the CICS was higher than what you are trying to put in now it will not come up. You need to load up what was in it or higher and reset the system before going down in software.

If the supplier had a higher version of software in the KSU before sending it to you, he should have done a STARTUP on the KSU, then pulled the power plug about 6 seconds after starting the STARTUP. That would have cleared the KSU for downgrading to your software. All equipment is probably good.

Thanks for all the responses, I had to put a new KSU in with new software just to get the customer up and working, they were down a day and a half because of this (they are 3 hrs away). I just got the original refurb equipment back so I'll let you guys know what I find.

in the few instances I have replaced a software with an older one...the system has come up, but as default. You have never actually seen this refurb ksu work have you?
