reformating problem within groups on a report

I'm trying to reformat the output on a report, but can't pull it off. I seem to have all the pieces, but can't put the puzzle together.

There are two fields on the report: txtAssignment and intUnit. I group the Assignments, and printed that in the GroupHeader0 section. Then I sort the vehicle numbers in order and print them. Problem is, they look like this:

SECTOR A
101
107
209
SECTOR B
111
117
216
SECTOR C
etc.

When the customer wants this:

SECTOR A
101, 107, 209
SECTOR B
111, 117, 216
SECTOR C
etc., etc.

or maybe

SECTOR A: 101, 107, 209
SECTOR B: 111, 117, 216
SECTOR C: etc., etc.

I've tried wrting a routine that creates a string that looks like the output, and constructing it by cycling through the collection of fields, but that generates an error as I am apparently not using the correct field property.

Appreciate any help.

Background: This is used by a dispatch agency who contacts their vehicles by radio. Each vehicle has a unit number, and is assigned to a given section of the town. Vehicles can be in or out of service, or be assigned different sectors on different shifts or days. Unit assignments are keyed by the supervisor in one part of the building, and are accessed by the dispatchers in another part. The dispatchers would like a small printout of the assignments because none of them like looking at the monitors. (or touching computers, come to that)

Rip out your number portion (101, 107, 209)
, put it in a 3 column sub report and place that sub report where ever you would like. This should work! Gord
