How do I reference a web server based on it's ip address? I have set up various web sites on the web server and given each one a different host header value.

I tried but that doesn't seem to work.

Thanks :)

If you use the IP to reference sites you will have to give each one a different port (or a different IP) otherwise it will always go to the default site.

default
etc

Chris.

Indifference will be the downfall of mankind, but who cares?

If you are doing it like then its not host headers you want to use. You want to use virtual directories if you are doing it that way. If you want to use headers such as or mysite.mydomain.com, myothersite.mydomian.com then you would use header files but headers files can only be used with domain names and not IPs.

If you have set up multiple sites, each with a unique host header, why would you want to access these sites by IP?

If your reason is because of lack of DNS entries, these can be overcome by added Host file entries for each of the sites, pointing to the IP address of the server. You can now access each of the sites using the 'real name'.
