Redundant Trunks 1

On a Cat 29xx and 5xxx, if I configure 2 trunk links to the same switch for redudancy. Will the switches be intelligent enough to know which port should be in blocking mode and which port should be in forwrding more?


fa0/1---trunk---fa0/1
switch1 switch2
fa0/2---trunk---fa0/2

If spanning-tree is running (it is by default) then yes your switches will automatically block one of the links.

OK...if I got that configuration setup. What command can I run on the switch to tell me which port is in blocking and which port is in forwarding mode?

show spanning-tree interface fa0/1 detail

This will tell you what you want to know about port fa0/1.
