recycle bin icon on all shortcuts

I have a user and all their shortcuts icons have changed to a recycle bin !! You can sort of see part of the old icon underneath (but no, it's not that there's one icon on top of another, I checked that). When I try to change the icon, it changes for a second but then changes back to the recycle bin again. Also, if you create a new sortcut the same thin happens.

Curious. Have you applied any patches or Service Packs recently? If you have, try un-installing them and see if that fixes the problem. If you haven't, try installing the latest Service Pack.

This is a TweakUI effect.

Launch TweakUI and change the shortcut icon symbol to anything other than what it is. Then set it back to what it was.

Then use the Repair option to Rebuild the icon cache.

I just checked and the user does not have TweakUI instealled.

no, haven't applied any patches or anything recently but do you think that will help? It was working fine last week and has suddently changed, yet no virus?

It did not have to be TweakUI, there are several programs that lead to the same result.

Donwload tweakui to repair the issue.
