I had an ABEND on one of my 5.1 servers. We reboot the box and now I get a recurring message at the console.
"Detected new media in device [V025-A0-D0:0] CD-ROM CRN-8241B 2.23" What the heck is that? About every 20 seconds this message is displayed at the server console.

The ABEND log says "The CPU encountered a problem executing code in DSMC.NLM. The problem may be in that module or in data passed to that module by a process owned by DSMC.NLM.

Your first issue sounds like your CDROM has a CD in it that it cant read properly. Eject it, clean it and try again. The Abend log with DSMC.NLM refers to a component of Tivoli Stroage Management - possibly your backup solution on another server somewhere. This component allows the backup program to identify and backup your NDS tree. DSMC requires parameters to be sent to it if there have been any changes to your servers recently especially if the replicas have been moved/altered. Do a DSREPAIR on your NDS and check that the server has a replica on it.
Hope this helps.

What version of Tivoli are you using? I found a memory leak related to DSMC on my 5.1 server that would: A -- Abend the server every month or so because TSA500.NLM would allocate itself RAM and never release it and B -- Build such a giant error log that the sys: volume would fill up.

I set TSA500.NLM in a CRON job to unload itself and reload every day, the issue is now gone.
