I searched and didn't see this topic covered before.

I recently lost my HD and got a new one. I tried to download my existing site to convert all my remote files into new local files. This process takes an extremely long period of time. I stopped after a few hours, and only getting a portion of my site downloaded.

Is there a setting or something I am missing in MX? I have a cable connection that averages about 3.5 Mbits/sec, CNET.com puts me at 6528 kbps, so I don't think it's my connection.

Any tips for recreating my local files from my published site?

And be aware that it dont matter what speed your PC/Connection is, it will also depend on the server you are downloading from. What access do you have to your host?

[blue]Cheech[/blue], you are correct. It's the host that matters. As far as host connection, I am not sure, but it is advertised that I have an "OC-3 connection".

OC-3 is similar to T1, I think, but it all depends on what the upload/download ratio/speed they have set everything up as. Can you use another FTP client to access your site?

I did just that. I downloaded WS FTP Pro ( then downloaded my site. It still took close to 4 hours to download 108mb, but at least I have it all locally now.

I take it that you are now going to implement some sort of backup procedure then [wink]

I tend to use 2 HD in the one machine. Run ISS on one with the test remote files. Then have the local files on the extra drive. You can set up multiple sites with the locals the same then just switch sites to upload to your live site.

If that makes any sense at all
