If the Internet Explorer desktop icon is deleted, it seems impossible to recover it. Is there a way of recovering a deleted IE desktop icon short of reinstalling Win2000 or going back to the last Ghost image?
Should be... I'm running WIndows XP, so the steps might be slightly different, but if you right-click on the desktop, go to Properties, then Desktop, either on that screen or another one you should be able to pick which of the four main icons (My Computer, My Network Places, IE, and My Documents) you want on your desktop.
Alternately, you can go to Start - Programs, right click on the IE icon there, and say "Send to Desktop", which'll create a shortcut. Jennifer Sigman

u can do it easily using the registry..
go to start , in the Run type : regedit
under this key :[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
there is a value called [red]NoInternetIcon[/red]
you will find it in the right side ..if you can't find it create it it's a REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)
and it can takes these values : (0 = disabled, 1 = enabled)
O?
And that is really needed?
Do you go into your options every day, week, month?
You can rightclick on a shortcut just like any other and set your prefs. , the intresting ones. The solution is out there.
LAST WORD: The registry seems to be the answer. I didn't delete the desktop item. It vanished after installing a cookie control program and has vanished before but I wasn't sure whether it was due to a finger fumble.
I tried netwalker1's solution but no go. The others suggested the solution I have had to settle for. The reason I wanted to recover the original item is because it is handy to right click to get access to IE properties. I have got a shortcut to the control panel IE applet. I use it to delete the IE cache and history so visit it every day.
Jocsta, it works!
I've been looking for that setting. Right in front of my nose and I couldn't see it. Must get my eyes tested.
Thank you very much. That's one less thing to perplex me.
I like that icon to be there so I can right click for properties.
Sorry Jocsta. I thought I gave you a star but I block popup windows so was unable to confirm. I have now unblocked popups and performed the whole procedure.
I'm having problems getting into my explorer, recycle bin, and My Computer. It keeps
giving me the error "explorer.exe has generated errors and you must sign off.
I recently added Norton's Anti-virus so I deleted it but still have the same problem. I'm using Windows 2000 Pro.
Please advise.
