Our system has recently been put on a new server (when the old one died suddenly). The techie team took the opportunity to give all the users new user account names at the same time.

Now, when the users try to access data that is held on the c drives of their computers (not on the server itself) they are unable to access it. As a very minor example, autotext which indivuals had on their own machines is no longer available.

Apparently, all the information is still on the computers, but the new user accounts are unable to access it. Is there any way to recover this data?

fire all the teakie team, they don;t know SID control the ACL? same name doesn't help to gain access with previous name, they need to dump all the SID and append to the new user name, even though they are the same "display name".

I'm sorry, I don't understand. What are SID and ACL?

Basicly you need to log onto the client using an administrator account ... then trasnfer the required files into the new ueser folder ... or the "all users" folder.

Then when your users log in there settings should be restored ... unless you are running a domain contorller that givernes your security policies.

Cheers,

Rob
