The root disk has failed on one of our Solaris systems and needs to be restored. Do we need to reinstall Solaris and the networker client on the system or is there a way to boot from the Solaris CD and initiate the recover?

One way ...

Boot off CD, partition disk as it was before.

Fire up the network ...

In turn, mount each disk slice onto the networker server
and (from server), run nwrecover and redirect the recover to the "tmp" mount point, need to recover to the correct slice as it was before

That should be it, may need to sort out the Veratis if used.

If possible, mirror the root disk, much easier.
