Hi Everyone,

My windows install was corrupted, so I reinstalled on another drive. I now have access to all of the files from the corrupted install of windows. I want to know if there is any way to retrieve the saved passwords from Internet explorer? I was told they are in the NTUSER.dat registry, but I am unsure how to transfer them to my new install. I actually need only one of them (the rest I remember or can reset).

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Stephen

Most web sites have a procedure to re-issue forgotten passwords, have you tried that approach?

There are many sites that can help you further with lost or forgotten IE passwords (Google for instance) but this site for security and ethical reasons does not support that policy. Sorry about that, but if we can help in any other way please try us again.

Sorry, this site doesn't have that option or I wouldn't be looking here. I will try to talk with the site administrators. Tools found using google are more for stealing passwords, and they won't work unless you can boot the version of windows you are trying to get the passwords from.

Thanks anyways,
Stephen

You original XP, is that beyond redemption?

Some general things to try.

See if System Restore will get you back to a restore point before your problem with Explorer.

Try Safe Mode (Do you have this problem in Safe Mode?).

Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. Right-click your Drive icon/ Properties/ Tools/ Error Checking. Select both boxes.

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

If they don't work you could try repairing windows by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.
