Recording Control microphone muted indefinitely?

I have SoundMax on my machine... not really sure how to mess with it, but it appears in all my sound options. but my problem is that under recording controls I cannot un-mute the microphone, which I need to make home recordings. somehow it gets muted on occasion even though I've done nothing to it.
