User's keep getting a "Record Unavailble, Please Wait..." message at the bottom of the screen. This occurs when a user is trying to write to a table. Then the screen will lock up for a while. Multiple users have access to write to the table because it is open shared. The table in on a server. I don't have that message coded in the source code anywhere so I'm not quite sure where it's coming from. And it doesn't happen all the time. Does anyone know why this message occurs. Is this a server issue?

Thanks,
Erik

This is a VFP message - you didn't have to code it! Basically it means that VFP can't access that record - either because some else has the record locked, or the file server simply isn't "ready" to provide the data. Check to see if the server is overloaded - it may need more processing power, faster drive or sometimes it will be because the network is handling too much traffic (sometimes retries due to bad hardware can cause this).

Thanks Rick. That's what I figured. Could this also cause some people to get a foxpro error "File Access Denied". Some people were getting this also.

Erik,
Yes - it's the difference between opening a file and just reading it. Although I've found that that message is usually due to security (access rights) or file attribute problems (e.g. a table trying to be opened updateable but it's marked read-only), or someone else has it opened Exclusive.
