Is there a way I can use the dialer to access my phone messages and record one on my hard drive? I have this message from my granddaughter that I would love to save for posterity.
Using XP Pro
I am sure there is a way you can do it, but it won't be a simple button push. I believe you can call your answering system where the message is stored and listen over your computers speakers to the message.
If you can do this I know there are programs out there that can capture any audio that is played on the computer. I stream audio from internet radio stations and record songs for later use.
Not much help, but its a start.
I really don't know what I am talking about, I just talk!
I can get the computer to dial the message centre on my phone line but Sound Recorder does not pick up anything when I click on the record button. Any thoughts?
You can change the source to record from by opening your Volume Control, clicking Options->Properties, mark the Recording section, and once you press OK you should be able to select whichever device to record from. If the device you want is not listed, you can put a checkmark beside it in the Recording Properties screen.
$7 bucks eh? Hmmm, never thought of that...
I'm running XP Pro and don't have that option in recording properties... Might it be something that I need to install from the OS CD?
This one allows you to record anything played over our audio card. (I have never used this one, but I am at work and its the best I can do).
I searched google for "record streaming audio"
DrTom,
The post from Volk359 is what you are looking for. I (in the past) saved for memories several tel msgs from my grand children. I neede to record them and found this type of item @ Radio Sh.... It plugs into the house tel port and also the sound/mic in on the sound card or on board sound port on the pc and acts as a pass thru to your telephone. I believe that it designed to allow recording tel conversations?? but it will connect to the pc as described. Open your sound recording program, call you messaging service and press until you get to your message, start the pc recording program, and do not speak until msg is complete, stop program, save file. There you have it. I have backed up these files to cd and stored safely for future use. Don't erase the msg on your service until you are satisified with the recording, as I recall the recording rate had a major effect on the sound quality and I do not recall the rate that I ended up using (sorry) but you can repeat recording as long as you don't erase the msg.
