Hey all,

Can anyone recommend a good utility to see who's got what file open? we have a terminal service server, so all the open files are local to the computer which means i can't look in the open networked files ... sometimes certian files are locked and noone owns up to having it open, and it takes a while to track that person down.. is there an easier way to see which ID has them open?

as I continue to talk to myself here ... LOL

ok so that program works sorta, but only looks at each process, then tells me which files that process has open ..

which means i need to goto every processes and check instead of just looking at that file..

Still looking for suggestions :)

I may have missed the point completely, am I right in assuming that this does not do what you want ?

Open computer management on the file server
expand shared folders
Click open files

Paulha, Unfortunatley that does not work for be because the files are on the same terminal server they log into they're not networked but local to the user.. therefore there is nothing to share.

PCE, Thanks, I did look into that as well, however like you said without the userid it's not much good to me..

I'll continue to use process explorer, but if anyone has a better suggestion I'm more then open to it :)

Thanks guys!

How about the computer management MMC?
Under System tools / shared folders / open files

That is what I have in XP, must be the same for windows 2000.

that's what paulha was suggesting above, but because they're not networked, they're not considered shares. They're local to the computer
