Hello, I am new to this site, so please forgive me if I am posting in the incorrect areas.

I am also a real newbie with our Nortel phone switch. I was pretty much placed in front of our PBX, and told good luck. I have learned much, but have a problem.

I have 2 blocks of TN's, which I understood to be programmed. However after puching down new phones, they did work. I did a stat in LD 20 on several of the TN's, and the recurring response from the PBX is "UNEQ".

Can anyone please tell me what this means, and how to fix it? If have learned enough on the switch to follow along pretty well with any advise that may be offered.

I really appreciate your patience and any help you may have.

There is no programming by default on vacant TN's, you have to add it. If the display of the phone shows the time then you have a live TN and no set programming.

Sounds like the phones are not programmed. get your Software Input/Output Guide (Administration). Look at LD-10 for directions on installing analog sets. Look at LD-11 for directions on installing digital sets.

Sounds like there are no phones programmed as others have mentioned, but if you did the programming and they did not show up, then you might have no Licenses.

Go to ld 22 to and Type SLT and check you Digital/analog/IP Phone liceses, depending what phones you programmed.

What system and RLS?????

Why change the engine if all you need is to change the spark plugs.

I checked the licenseing, in LD 22, and it shows that I have 322 analog, and 298 digital licenses available.

I could not locate an output/input guide, and no one seemed to know what I was talking about, with reference to one.

I was advised by another individual that all I had to do was do a copy from an active line to the TN I am wanting to program, and it should work.

I gave it a shot, and when I did a stat on the TN, it then showed me that it was idle, but there was still nothing going on with the phone itself. Still dead. So, obviously either his advise was incorrect, or incomplete.

Sorry guys, I know how frustrating it can be to help newbies, but I really appreciate it.

What type of phone did you copy and does it match the type of phone you have plugged in? (Yes, your co-worker was right in that you can copy a phone - provided they are the same type - 2008, 2616, 3902, 3902, 3904?)

In load 20, IDU the TN and make sure the switch knows there is a phone plugged into that TN.
REQ: IDU X X X X (x x x x = your target TN)

PRT the TNB and post it here.

Are all of your cards digital or analog or some of each? Make sure you aren't punching a digital set to an analog port or vice versa...Might wanna print us a stat of the card too...
REQ Stat x x x (Loop shelf Card)

3903 should replace that second 3902 up there - big lunch at the Colombian place has put me to sleep...

Try to IDC the card, you might have no card in that slot.

LD 32

IDC 12 0 5 (example for a large system)

IDC 10 (example For a small system)

Use the TN appropiate to you. Do not add the last digit (unit number) just the first 3 for a large system or the first one for an Option 11.

You should get a reply (long set of numbers NT8D02xx + other stuff) if you don't (you only get SCH/NPR XXX) you migth have no card in that slot, if you know where to look in the cabinet/IPE then you can confirm it visualy.

Okay, so far behind, I think I'm blind.

I can answer 2 questions right now, and will check on the rest.

The phones I am coping are the same, 2616's. And I did the IDU, and it gave me the following error "NPR503".

I will check on a couple of these other things, best I can. Some of it sounds a bit over my head, but hey, gotta learn somehow.

Thank God it's Friday.

NPR503 means the switch does not see the phone plugged into that jack - now that could mean it isn't plugged in or that there is a break in the wire somewhere or the pair is punched down but reversed or that the unit is still unequipped on that card but you said it now said "idle" so probably not that...

You got to get your pair of wires from the phone to the switch before you can even think of fixing anything else. Most likely, that will fix it anyway...I'm betting the pair is reversed - pick the easiest end to get to and switch them.

If you have a toner you can plug it into the jack, they usually have polarity lights on them if the light is red then it is reversed(swap tip and ring) if no light at all you do not have a connection back to the TN.

Guy's I think were talking over this guy's head. I think he need's a Vendor to come in and show him a thing or 2. Pay for an extra 2 hours to have a tech show you how to do a few ADD's, Mov's, changes and how to do a crossconnect.
He is a member as of today.

A couple hours with a good vendor would do a world of good. Looking at a wall of 110 blocks was pretty overwhelming the first time I did it...But willingness to learn is a great start.

Just a thought to check...

Remember when you are punching down the set that the TN number is ONE LESS than the pair number on the 66-block.

For example,, TN 12 0 is the first set on card 12, and it is the first pair on the block. Set 12 1 is pair 2, etc.
If you aren't careful, you'll be punching set 5 on the 5th pair & you WILL get NPR503s...

(Not that I'VE ever done that.....)

Kenstepfan:

The Most important question still has not been answered.

What system is it and What Rls.?

Or have you fixed this problem and just not let us know it is fixed?

Please forgive me for not posting, since last week. I had an emergency business trip, which I had to take and I just returned this morning.

After reading some of the posts, perhaps it would be best if I called in a ticket to AT&T, and got a little on site help and training.

I will discuss this option with our owner and most likely call it in. I will also make note to retrieve some of the information that was asked, in an effort to help in the future.

Thank you all very much for your help, and again my apollogies for the delayed posting.
