XP SP2, moved machine from one room to another, maybe just timing coincidence, but after move, the machine will boot up fully on occassion and after a few minutes get message to save all work the machine will shutdown. this is a sporadic event with the messege. Normally you boot it up it loads and restarts, it cycles in this manner until you manually shut her down. Any ideas? Have not found any hardware conflicts or virus. Only thing I have left in my mind is to install second drive with OS to grab all important information off the drive before reformatting, hoping not to have to do this, so any help is as always greatly appreciated.

Hi,
Did you have a UPS connected in the other room and not in this one..If it was configured to shutdown on Power Loss and No UPS was attached, the UPS software might 'think' the power failed.

No, the only thing we were utilizing was a power box, which is essentially a fancy surge protector. I have brought the box into the office and connected on a network of power utilities and still have the same issues. thanks for the reply.

Hi

There is a Trojan which puts aouple of dozen shutdowns into the scheduled tasks list. I cannot remember the name but it does come in a popup window prior to shutdown.
If this is the problem then go to Scheduled Tasks and delete these tasks. Their names are short and stand out very clearly

You may abort any Shutdown by typing Shutdown /a in the Start Run box and pressing Enter.

Get a second opinion on the malware which may be causing this problem.

Generally when a computer starts acting up right after a move I suspect some piece of hardware has been knocked loose/dislodged/otherwise screwed up during the relocation. Try opening it up and reseating all the cards and cords and plugs and whatnot.

I try not to let my ignorance prevent me from offering a strong opinion.

Thank you all for your responses, I will start with the last post and check out the hardware. After that I will go in and look for the malware and or trojan that may be causing this. Thanks again all and I will post an update soon.
