Hi,

I'm trying to install Realplayer Basic (the free one)
on an NT machine.
At the end of the install process i get
"Another application is using asctrm.sys file" and
install aborts. It then advises to log in as administrator to be able to install.

I've had the IT people here (supposedly) give me admin privileges on my machine, but still no luck.

2 questions:

1- is there a difference between admin privileges and 'full admin' privileges (as the real.com website says you need to have to install)

2- is there a way to get around this and install the thing?

Many thanks,

Alex

Do you log in to a domain? If so, that creates a whole new profile for you on the local PC, and, in effect, takes away your admin privileges on the PC. What your IT people have to do is to add your NT domain user account to the administrator's group on the local PC...that will give you back your admin privileges. Of course. if you're not logging in to a domain, the foregoing is meaningless. Hope this helps you out...:)

i am trying to install realplayer8 and at the end i get an error saying "asctrm.sys" is being used by another program, is there anyway, i can bypass this with out involing my IT dept, i use NT 4 and i do log into a domain. perhaps some sort of a registry hack
