RealPlayer: audio and video out of synch or video freezes

I have installed four different versions of RealPlayer (7, G2, 8 basic, 8 Plus)and each time the result is the same: When I open an .rm file the audio plays normally but the video only plays one frame every ten or more seconds. This is the case for both streaming and local files. The files are okay in Windows 98. I installed the latest video drivers for my card and they didn't help. I upgraded Media Player to 7 and that didn't help. Nothing helps!
