Reading variables across frames in IE

I've come across a strange behavior in IE (Mac version 5). I have a window with frames. Frame A is loaded with a page from web server A. Frame B is loaded with a page from web server B. IE refuses to allow me to access objects on page A from within page B. It only happens when the pages are on different servers. Netscape does not have a problem with this.

Is there a way to make it work? Is it some weird security thing... that would be a first for MS! :)

Thanks!
Joe

PS: I'm using "parent.pageA.object" on page B to access the object on page A.

If Netscape doesn't have a problem with it, I'd be really scared about using it!

Yes, it's a security thing. Imagine if, on your pages, you linked the viewer to another person's login page (let's say, for an e-mail account), accessed their passwords, and logged them along with their usernames. Then, you could steal their e-mail accounts and make things really inconvenient for them.

Thanks for the info... that's what I suspected.

My window actually has 3 frames: a header frame across the top, a navigation frame on the left (my "page A") and a content frame on the right (page B). The entire frameset was described in a single file with nested frame definitions.

The page for the header frame has to remain on the first server (too long to explain here). And simply moving page A to the second server also didn't work. However, but "un-nesting" the framesets and creating a second frameset file on the second server, the two pages were able to pass objects between them (the header page and parent frameset are still on the first server).

Thanks again for your help and fast response!!
