In December, we replaced our two jukeboxed DLT7000 drives with two jukeboxed SDLT320 drives but we're having problems reading our old DLT7000 tapes. Backup server is Networker 6.1.3 on Solaris 8.

We're getting the following in daemon.log -

01/07/04 10:11:50 nsrd: restore_server:<11>/usr/local/ (12/10/03) starting read from Month3.00107 of 15 KB

01/07/04 10:13:46 nsrd: media notice: Volume "Month3.00107" on device "/dev/rmt/0ubn": Block size is 4096 bytes not 131072 bytes. Verify the device configuration. Tape positioning by record is disabled.

01/07/04 10:13:46 nsrd: media warning: /dev/rmt/0ubn reading: fsr 829 read: Not enough space

01/07/04 10:13:47 nsrd: media emergency: could not position Month3.00107 to file 19, record 830

01/07/04 10:13:47 nsrd: media warning: /dev/rmt/0ubn reading: Not enough space

And then it disables the drive.

I applied all patches to the server before hooking up the new drives.

At present, we have to put the old drives in place in order to do restores. I considered attaching both units but discovered we'd need a license to have a second jukebox hooked up all the time.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Is there any way we can get around this (i.e. hooking up the old drives each time we need to do a restore)?

Thank you in advance.

I have a similar experience.

Configuration:
SunOS pabkp007 5.8 Generic_108528-18 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-280R
NETWORKER 6.1.3 Build 428 Network Edition/140
STK L80 firmware 2.13; LTO-1 VIPER 4 drives firmware 1536
I/O card: QLGC.ISP10160/PCI BRIDGE

Block size is 32768 bytes not 65536 bytes. Verify the device configuration. Tape positioning by record is disabled.

Action:
I have found an explanation I thought correct on
"Free Sun Alert Notifications" (
I have upgraded 108725 from -12 to -15 (with requisited patches).

Additional problem:
After reboot -r, I found the following message in /var/adm/mesages

SEAGATE_LTO options value invalid bits set: 0x4000

STK does not have a solution.
SUN does not have a solution.
They said to me that it was the third time that this problem was submitted to them.
They propose I remove the "108725 patch" only.

I've been getting the code 0x4000 on my DLT7K-data entry
since applying 108725-14. The entry is Sun's own entry
in st.conf. Not a problem since we don't use the DLT7000
drive much but now I think I'll call them and be the "fourth".

How are you trying to read your DLT7000 tapes? Are you trying to mount them in the SDLT drive?

We're trying to read the DLT7000 tapes by doing a restore. The SDLT320 automatically mounts the tape as it's been inventoried & knows it's loaded.
