I have a 2502 router with 2 8MB partitions. One partition is read/write, while the other is read-only.

2502#show flash

System flash directory, partition 1:
No files in System flash
[0 bytes used, 8388608 available, 8388608 total]
8192K bytes of processor board System flash (Read/Write)

System flash directory, partition 2:
File Length Name/status
1 7091236 igs-j-l.111-17.bin
[7091300 bytes used, 1297308 available, 8388608 total]
8192K bytes of processor board System flash (Read ONLY)

How do I delete the read-only partition so that I can combine them into a single 16MB partition?

2502(config)#no partition flash
%Error: Erasure of partition 2 required.
2502(config)#

2502#erase flash
Partition Size Used Free Bank-Size State Copy Mode
1 8192K 0K 8192K 8192K Read/Write Direct
2 8192K 6925K 1266K 8192K Read ONLY RXBOOT-FLH

System flash directory, partition 1:
No files in System flash
[0 bytes used, 8388608 available, 8388608 total]

Erase flash device, partition 1? [confirm]

Thanks,
Chris

Configuration register is 0x2102

Are you saying that I need to change the config-register to 0x2142 in order to delete the read-only flash partition?

Chris

config-register 0x2101

will take you to boot mode on the 2500 series router. From there your flash will be read/write.

Thanks Johns1mpCCNP, it looks like that will work, but its a little late (9 months) though.
