Hi!
For my own purposes I was writing queries in Access and created Crystal Reports based on it.
Now i re-created my queries into SQL Server views and i need to gemy dtatsource changed.
How can I do this if name of the query and view are different but fields are exactly the same without re-creating Crystal Report?

Thanks

Yes, sure, but can I re-name Access source to be like SQL Server view...I can't find if I can.

You need to use the dialog to connect to the new data source. If it's via ODBC, use the ODBC (RDO) option...

- Ido

Visual CUT & DataLink Viewer:
view, e-mail, export, burst, distribute, and schedule Crystal Reports.

I am connected ofcourse but how does it suppose to change name of Access query? Thanks

Hi,
In the Set Datasource panel, while connected to SqlServer ,find the view in the lower window ( the SqlServer connection) that replaces the Access query your report uses( in the upper window )..Highlight each and press the Update button..

If this is not clear, please review the docs on changing a datasource -

It updates and it says that table name is the view's name BUT it does not actually re-names visibly.

So if another person will open it up - they will have no idea to drill down to see if it IS query I am saying it is or maybe it is something else.

Am I wrong?

Hi,
It does not rename anything visibly - it creates an alias so that all references inside the report do not have to be changed..

If the user does not trust you ( by seeing the data, it should be obvious) - well that is another issue.

Anyway, by right-clicking the properties of the updated object ( in that same upper set datasource panel) the 'actual' name will be shown..

Right, I was hoping we can work around and get it renamed.
Don't you think it is a glitch in Crystal - having old shell on the real name?
Thanks

Hi,
No, for the reason I gave..Do you really want to rename every reference to the old name in your reports ( field names, formula usages of field names, summaries, Group names, etc.) - now imagine how long it would take for , say, 200 reports!

I would hope it'll rename everything automatically like Find/Replace function does. It is doable but no one thought of it sadly enough. Thanks

If you wish to re-alias the query, go to DATABASE-DATABASE EXPERT.
On the right side of the screen, in the Selected Tables area, highlight the query name and press F2.
Now, rename the query and press Enter.
