re-install for USB controller

Hi All,

I have managed to delete my USB controller from my systems folder! Is there a site that I can easily get what I need to reinstall the USB controller?

Also, when I get the controller back in place, what do I need to do to make sure that the PC automatically detects my USB based modem? (And any other device that I attach to the PC!)

Your USB controller driver depends on what motherboard you have.

If you have a VIA based motherboard download the latest 4in1 drivers.

If you have an Intel board get the intel chipset drivers

If its an nvidia get this driver nforce motherboard.

The reinstallation:

Use Device Manager and find the USB root hub(s). Right-click and uninstall.

Restart XP and the new Hardware Wizard will restore the USB services.

I have an IWill motherboard running an AMD 1.3Mb cpu. Can you tell what chipset it would use from this?

If I download the correct drivers will they restore the USB controller in device manager? This is the thing that I accidentally deleted, so currently there is nothing to right click as suggested!

If all you did was remove the USB controller or root hubs in Device Manager, reboot and they will be reinstalled by the New Hardware Wizard.

OK, cheers. I'll try that. But I thought I had already re-booted since I deleted it. I am wondering if a virus that is on my PC could be doing this. There was one that I had on a CD which I accidentally re-infected my PC with.
