I have an application (Pose4), that looks for and loads files from a predefined path under the directory that the app was installed in. I want to make it load files from a different location, preferably a CDROM drive, there is no way to do this from within the app its self.

Is there some way I can fool the app into loading files from another location?

I am working under Win98SE. There are no relivent entries in the DOS enviroment, and I can't find any thing in the Registery that looks relevent (but I could be missing somthing).

I hear a deafining silence out there, c'on guy's and girls, one of you out there must know!

the only advise i can off is try searchin for that path string in relation to that program in the Registry, if it is not founsd there, it most likly cannot be done. I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every moment of it.

TopHat2:

Since the install directory would not be the same on different computers, this info could not be hard coded in the exe. It must exist somewhere though - so here are some thoughts of places to check.

In the Program Directory look for .ini or .dat files.

In the C:\Windows Directory look for an .ini file.

Run Sysedit and check win.ini, system.ini, config.sys and autoexec.bat for a path statement.

In the registry (HKLM\Software\Program or Company) there may be a path that is in binary form. Those are harder to edit but it can be done.

Hope these thoughts help.
