RDP connection issue after XP Pro Host reboot

I have recently switched to using RDP for connecting to my local machines from a remote W7 Netbook.

As long as the host XP Pro machine doesn't reboot there is no issue making an RDP connection ... however, if the host machine reboots its game over until someone locally logs on to the machine.

What has me stumped is some XP Pro machines appear to automatically make a network connection and connect to the internet after rebooting while others do not.

On this one machine I have tried both Wireless and Wired configurations. Searched the web and haven't found a solution ... perhaps not asking the right question?

Unfortunately that Google Groups link is dead.

I am interested because I have the same problem RDPing into an XP Pro-based ftp server from a Win 7 system if the XP system has been rebooted, exactly like BrixTreme describes.

No problem RDPing in from XP desktops, and also no problem using mstsc from the XP mode virtual machine on that same Win 7 box.

I didn't test extensively, but convinced myself it has something to do with the version of the TSC shipping with Win 7. Since my FTP server is very rarely shut down it hasn't really been a problem and when it is rebooted I just use the XP mode client the first time, so I never chased it any further.

I do frequently remote into a number of other XP machines local and remote and don't have any problem with them - I have only seen it on that particular XP box.

Interesting ... Here is what I have found.

This HOST machine is normally configured for Wireless ... in this configuration neither NLA/AUTO nor logging in from another XP machine worked ... which suggests the Intel ProWireless connection software is not run prior the first login. After logging in locally the proWireless software starts up and finally provides a connection.

If I reconfigure the Host for a Wired Connection ... W7 still won't connect but I have confirmed another XP machine will. So perhaps this suggests there may be an issue with W7's version of RDP?

Another difference between the XP and W7 RDP links ... the XP link modifies some of the HOST's Screen settings, W7 doesn't.

Sorry, Linney, you are right.

I had my browser zoomed and didn't see the login at the right, once I logged into google groups I got the page OK.

However, just checked the xp system I have this problem with and the NLA service is started, so that isn't it, at least in my case.

If it was just a problem that occurred while using Wireless I would suggest that you removed all the third party Wireless software and set Windows up to manage it.

If it also occurred in wired connections I would try the usual Winsock fix.
