Random XP Shutdown

Have had Windows XP Pro (Build 2600) at home now for about a month and every thing has been going fine.

Just recently XP has started shutting down for no reason. I initially thought it may be a rogue piece of software but it can occur at any time even with only the desktop active.

It seems to shutdown, not crash, but then when it logs back in goes through the scan disk procedure.

Are there any logs or reports that will assist me with this or can anybody shine any light?

Cheers in advance!

Mike

Have a look in the Event Viewer (at the System folder and also the Application one). This will show you details of system errors you are having. Event Viewer is found in Computer Management via right clicking on My Computer. Any errors you find right click on them for further information.
