Dear All,
We have an IP406 connected to a Small office on a wan network.
The routers used are HP ProCurve 7102.
The problem i am describing below has happened at the customer site and at the lab where we were able simulates the WAN setup.
We are using NAT on the router, application layer gateway is enabled.
There is an IP trunk between the 2 PABX.
When we call from one site to another, there is always signaling. Meaning that the remote phone always rings.
On a random basis when answering the call you can talk, other times there is no voice and after two seconds the call is dropped!!!
In case of failure you can see that the call in on hold for 2 seconds then dropped.
Any ideas what might be the problem?

What sort of handsets?

Do you have Direct Media Path enabled? If you do, the problem you report could be a routing issue.

If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.

We have tested on digital and analog handset.
I will check on Monday the config to see if direct media path is enabled or not.
the weird issue is that the problem is happening on a random basis.
According to my knowledge in a H.323 phone call the signaling goes on port 1719 1720 and the voice ports are assigned dynamically. can this be the problem???\

Is it possible to fix the voice ports in the h323 trunk??

With the configuration you describe (i.e. analogue phones or DS phones) DMP won't become an issue.

You can "control" the ports used for the RTP streams on the gatekeeper tabs.

There are some issues (never experienced them myself) with certain routers / firewalls. You need to read up on h323 fixups
