Could someone help me out please, I may just be daft but when I am downloading a large file I have issues watching my available ram dcrease at the around the same rate that the file is downloading.
I have 2 gig of Ram and use Freeram xp pro.

Do I assume that downloaded data is automaticially stored in ram or have inadvertantly changed something to stop it going to my hard drive.

As i said I may be daft and showing my ignorance and this is just normal but if someone could fill me in I would be very grateful.

Many thanks for any help you could give

What operating system are you using? Reason im asking millenium is well known for memory leaks although i dont know of any that fast. Also you might have some spyware or virus eating it up. How often do you do virus/spyware scans? Also what antivirus and spyware removers are you using? Also if you can give us the specs of your computer. If you are not sure download belarc advisor from the link below. Run it and it will give you the computer info. The info im requesting is how much ram your using. What windows version. Also your hard drive space. Thats all the info i need unless someone replies asking for more.

Hi EF

thx for getting back to me, please find abelow the belarc print out, hope it helps.

Well its looks fine to me and your running xp home so not any memory leaks that i know of with it. My advice run a full system scan with antivirus and spyware removers. Ones I reccomend are avg, adware, spybot, hijackthis. Also double check with housecall below.

I got a question?

where are you saving this file to?

it is normal for certain files to be BUFFERED in RAM before it gets saved to DISK.... but it does sound strange that it gets saved totally to RAM...

and do what was suggested by El-Freak...

Thanks guys i will give it a go.

What I believe you are seeing is Freeram working.
With 2gig of memory you shouldnt have any problems or need for freeram, but thats my opinion.
Open task manager and click on the performance tab you then can see actually what your CPU and RAM is doing.
