I have an Adaptec 2130 SLP SCSI RAID controller with 8 Seagate drives in a RAID 10 configuration (RAID 5 does the same thing). For some reason, when there is very heavy I/O, the controller will lock up for about 10 - 15 seconds and then continue at about 1/10th the speed.

OS: XP Pro or Vista 32
Motherboard: SuperMicro and Asus
Video: Various cards.

Motherboard, controller, video card, cables all changed out to new or known good.

Has anyone ever run into this?

Thanks,

Barry

Adaptec generally make very solid controllers. Any chance you've got a screwy disk in the bunch?

Sounds like a drive is dropping out of the array and then rebuilding. Are there any logs or a Windows app for the RAID controller? Are the drives in a mobile rack?
