Ok, I upgraded to a VisionTek 2600 xt AGP and founf that Visat doesn't support it so I replaced it with the ATI 3650 which States on the box Vista compat and the windows web site states is supported. well, the upgrade advisor says it is not supported. should I even consult this upgrade advisor? how many cards do I have to buy before it is supported? anyone have this problem too?

Thanks.

Check the ATI web site to see if in fact they have an updated driver for Vista, most usually do.

A semi-similar story here.

ATI Radeon 2600 XT
thread1583-1456972

I just bought a laptop with an ATI HD 3470 and it runs Vista on full aero just fine. I am not as familiar with ATI's numbering/naming scheme as I am with nVidia but I would assume your 36 is better than my 34 - although the AGP part might be the hold-up.

I replaced the 2600 AGP witht he pci 3560 to stop the pc from crashing. this runs better but still crashes.

Hi Ken,

what type of crashes do/did you experience?

are there any BSOD error codes that you could provide? or better explain the situation, as it may not be the gfx-card that is the culprit here...

on another note, are you using the original drivers? are they updated?

have you updated the BIOS, this fixes at times incompatibility...

during midtown madness the screen goes black and then comes back up saying that the driver stopped and restarted.

All drivers are the latest. BIOS updated to very latest DualSATA ASROCK 2.0 at 2.0 Vista Ultimate

Is it only just one game that causes your problem? If so maybe the game manufacturer has a patch on their site.

If it is more general then it may be a badly written Display Driver. If it goes down the same path as Nvidia took with a lot of their customers (ex customers?) with Display driver problems you may have to wait for the manufacturer to fix the driver problem. It might help if you report the fault to them, alternatively, keep checking regularly for updates.
