Yes Peter "on the roadmap" is great. But this particular market segment is primed for virtualization and having to go back in time to accomodate some outdated licensing mechanism doesn't sit well with me.

Large RAM requirements = Bad coding/programming, see CCR for details 
I think Avaya choose to run everything in ram and Mitel on a disk.
But most ram is used for One-X Portal with 200 users.
But our server runs with the IPO, VMPro and a couple of 1XP users on about 3,5Gb of ram.
It is a choice and i think running everything in the ram memory is not a bad idea at all.

For those that want to run an IPO server in a virtual machine can i remind you othr the old proverb regarding eggs & baskets
this is not a application I would want to virtualise unless absolutly necessary.
A Maintenance contract is essential, not a Luxury.

Then you have absolutely no concept of modern virtualization. You're telling me that if I have a multi server cluster using vSphere and Fault Tolerance where live shadow copies of all my virtual machines are kept on multiple physical servers that there is some alternate and amazing technology that would make using a single server more reliable? You are telling me that if I have VMware with high availability that somehow a single dedicated server is going to provide me with a higher level of reliability? Or if I add vMotion and have the ability to move a virtual machine from one physical server to another because of expected down time that somehow that single server you suggest puts less of my proverbial eggs in the same basket?

Don't compare Avaya with Mitel, you'll break my heart.....
In the Avaya CM environment when High Availabilty is needed then you are drowning in the added servers, for each service a minimum of two servers is needed.
They could better walk the way Kyle suggest, that is a whole lot more reliable as adding single mirror servers running for no use ( normally ) and consuming a lot of expensive energy. A well setup VMware solution will reduce down time to a absolute minimum (if any) and energy consuption will be far less.

It was just an example that a Mitel system can do good things too
They have a awful way of programming but do have a good visualization system.
If you want to add a pbx then you select the software version you want and it builds one for you.
Avaya should think of that if they don't want to loose a large part of the market.

WQhat meant was if the hardware running the virtual servers fails (mother board failure is not unheard of) then you have lost all of your servers.
at least with separate hardware you only loose one server (either your data server or your VM server) not all of them
you example was using a multi server cluster, much better as when one server fails the other(s) take on the load of all the roles.
