We have a site with R6 IPO and want to upgrade them to R10. DO we need to add an R10 Essential Edition license as well? on One Source once we load the xml file its not giving Essential Edition on the BOM but one tech has advised that we would need to order Ess Edition as the virtual one from R6 will not be migrated.

You should contact your Avaya representative or Avaya Support.
The virtual essential license is not recognized by PLDS and now you must send the configs of the running systems to Avaya and they will (should) provide Essential licenses in PLDS for R10.
It is easier written here as done, it took us four! weeks to convince them we should get the licenses for free and then it took another two weeks to actually get them.

R6 did not have essential edition so it would not have been on the XML file sent to migrate to PLDS

Upgrading from V7.0 to V8.0 will generate a Virtual essential edition licence (you need to make a call to lock it in)
as upgrading to V8.0 or higher would require an upgrade licence so hat you could get the correct migration file I would strongly suggest the correct option is to purchase a fill essential edition licence (this would also cause less problems should the SD card fail)

Do things on the cheap & it will cost you dear

Thanks fellows. Had a word with our distributor and he says we can just send the xml file to him and he will process it....no need to purchase Ess Edition license. Lets see how it goes....Hope well.

I saw a roadmap doc about Avaya One Source and PLDS with plans to be able to upgrade IP500 (v1) to V2 R10+. Perhaps they will think about the virtual essential licenses too.

The upgrade license it self is an essential edition as long as you're using The Essential upgrade. defloh, you should be able to do what you want to do. you just need to have the right parts on the order for it to accept it.
