Qwest T1 - Requsting to change ISDN Trunk Configuration 1

Qwest sent me this message, "Due to a recent software upgrade on Qwest’s Nortel DMS250 switches, Qwest is no longer able to support a non-standard Interface Class (IFCLASS) of "Network" in the QCC Nortel Voice switches for ISDN protocols/switch list U459PRI/4ESS and u449PRI/5ESS. Going forward any customer who wishes to use 5ESS or 4ESS switches with the related ISDN protocols must provision their circuits with Qwest using IFCLASS of “USER” and be able to set IFCLASS of "NETWORK" in their CPE. Alternatively, they can request to use NI-2 protocol (available only on NGS switches) or other NI-1 protocols (Nortel-NTNAPRI or Old AT&T/Lucent PBX-N449PRI); all of these support IFCLASS of “NETWORK” in the QCC Voice switches and the customer can set their CPE/Switch to “User”."


One of their recommendation is, "If the customer has an AT&T or Lucent PBX/CPE: They could make a change to Custom AT&T (N449PRI) in the QCC switch as "NETWORK" with the customer switch/CPE as "USER". Will A change order will be required to be submitted on the related DALs and a hotcut will need to be done with QCC and customer’s switch tech."

Where in CM3.0 would I find user? Only configuration I'm aware of for "Network" or "User" is in the DS1 connect type of Network. What am I missing?

U-449 is the AT&T equivalent of old NI-1 (number only, no name) (protocol "b" on the DS1 board form)

U-459 is the AT&T equivalent of AT&T custom (number only, no name) (Default protocol "a" on the DS-1 board)

N-449 is the AT&T equivalent of 4-ESS

This is also where you will see connect "network"

Whenever you see a reference to "Connect" on an AVAYA switch it refers to the switch on the far-end, NOT your switch.
DMS-250 software LEC-17 Still supports the above protocols, I would suspect Quest doesn't want to support it. I would demand an explanation of "WHY".

Qwest made the protocol change adn everything is good. However when they went to set the switch to what they call teh industry standard for 4ess of "user" all out Ts went down. On the DS1 I'm already set for network so I'm not sure what I'm missing.

They want me to find out what I need to do on the Avaya side so they can set their switch to Interface Class from Network to User...????

I asked the tech and he said they will support it but it's not the industry standard going forward....

I have seen this before, what they are trying to do, I think, is make all their customers (you) adhere to THEIR "one size fits all" standard. It requires less training for their "techie" contractors if they don't have to support multi-protocol configurations. Too many times with DMS switches, I have had tech's argue with me, or just simply say "I don't know how to do that" so I tell them to get their supervisor, or this is how you do it.

Just put your foot down and say "no", or better yet get their callback number and say you are going to call the rep and file a complaint, and you will call them back in a few minutes.
