My company is in the proccess of building a 'perl' based application to do the job of "user management" ie: creating accounts, changing passwds,etc...

My job is to find applications already on the market that can be used on both platforms.

Can someone out there give any recommendations ?

Thanks,
P@

pneely:

I host unixreview.com's monthly Shell Corner column. I addressed this issue in last November's column with 'Creating User Accounts with Mkusers'. It's a Korn shell script with an accopanying "C" program, setpass.
See it at:

It was developed on Solaris and tested on SCO Open Server V, but is rather generic.

It's fully explained and the source is freely available for download. Since it's free, there's no warranty.

Thanks, that a nice script. But what we were looking to do is to replace "Enlighten" which we currently have only a few licenses for.

So the program would;

1. Configure users and groups-you could "Add, Modify, Copy, Delete, Change Passwds, Lock, Unlock, Expire Passwds, View, Processes. And do this on multiple machines as well.
2. Perform security checks on the systems
3. Observe disk utilization by user or group - search for files
4. View swap space, configure crontab, shutdown, date and time
5. Show events

Not to much to ask...Who compares to "Enlighten" out in the market ?

Thanks,
P@

Are there any more suggestions out there for a "user management" application that can replace "Enlighten" ?
