I have experienced this error message when I set up brand new R5 mail clients on pc's that have not had Notes installed on them before. It occurs when the user tries to open the mailfile or some other database that resides on the server. What I have noticed is that in order for you to connect to the you have to setup a connection doc locally and then it seems to cache the server info from then forward. Am I missing something? (note: we have tcpip only, able to ping the server etc.)

If you want to connect to a server two things you have to confurge. First "Locations" in the File->Moblie->Location.
Fill up server name mail account name for the user, second "Connection" which is in the same place(Address book) make a new connection fill up the sever name and IP address. It will work.

I am not sure if you still check this but I thought that I would give it a shot. My problem has some similarities to the discussion above. I am attempting to connect to a lotus notes database, using a work laptop, connected to my home adsl connection. I keep receiving the error “unable to find path to server” when I try to connect to this database. I am capable of pinging the database. Co-workers using roadrunner (a dsl connection) are able to connect to the database. My adsl provider has me going through 3 routers before data gets to the internet. In addition, my computer is assigned an internal network ip address and then one of the routers assigns an ip address for the internet (as you can see my computer is dynamically assigned ip addresses). In addition to this, we use FireWall 1 as our firewall and I am able to connect and validate my username and password with the firewall just fine. Is it possible that my isp also uses FireWall1 and somehow the secure data becomes corrupt or that the data is not able to locate my pc because of the multiple routers? I have tried creating new locations and connections but it has not seemed to work, however, I do receive a different error message: “server not responding”. Any suggestions? Thanks for any help that you can provide.

Since you're using R5, this makes it easier. Select File --> Database --> Open. In this dialog box, substitute the server's IP address for the server name. The Notes client will go to the server, identify the server's heirarchical name, and create your connection document for you.
I don't think it's a routing problem. Provided your company's network allows port 1352 to come through, or you're using some type of a VPN solution. It could be a DNS server issue, though. Use your company's DNS server as one of your secondary DNS server settings on your laptop. That just might work.
