Hi,

Some of my backup jobs are failing/not completing. The error reported is "The drive hardware is offline! Please confirm that the drive hardware is powered on and properly cabled."

I've searched google for this error and it seems many people have suffered from it but no real answers.

Perhaps someone here can help me figure this out.

Error 58053
From the even log:
"Backup Exec Alert: Device Error
(Server: "server") (Job: "Job IBM1") The drive hardware is offline!

Please confirm that the drive hardware is powered on and properly cabled."

and

Error 34114
"Backup Exec Alert: Job Cancellation
(Server: "server") (Job: "Job IBM1") The job was canceled by user Recovery."

Many thanks again,
b

I'm having the same problem. Has anyone replied with an answer? I'm having a hard time following how this forum works.

I used to have that problem when I was on 10d.
What Veritas used to do for me is:
1- Go to control panel, hardware devices and check to see if that tape drive is showing there. Most of the time it wasn't.
2- So we would end up reinstalling the drivers.
3- Shut down the drive
4- Shut down the server.
5- Restart the drive
6- Then restart the server

Hope this helps.

We just got the scsi cable replaced and had no errors yet.
Fingers crossed.
