Hello all...

I have a Win98SE machine that just doesn't want to take a certain HP LaserJet 2300 over the network. Everytime I try to install the printer, it installs, but then I get this message after trying to print a test copy:

+++
Error writing to \\BERTHA\IMC Laser for printer (IMC Laser):
The access code is invalid.

This printer will be set to work offline.
+++

I know for sure that the printer works, because every other machine in the building is able to use it (WinXP, Win2k, etc.). I know the machine is connected to the network properly, and I can use other networked printers just fine. I have removed the drivers from the registry and hard drive, and I've deleted the port and re-installed it (according to one of the MS knowledge base articles...#260737).

I'm curious as to why this thing is refusing to work, I can't figure it out for the life of me. My only guess would be printer driver issue, but I'm using the original CD from HP.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Sounds like the machine is not authorized on the network properly? Maybe check for updated drivers and try those?

I just downloaded the latest drivers off the web, and it still gives me the same error message. The computer is authorized to use the machine as far as I can tell (because I'm doing the work under the admin account, which of course has access to all the printers).

I managed to fix it, I think. Everything is working at the moment, for future reference I set the Win98 machines to spool rather than printing directly to the printer. Might be just a fluke, but I'm happy right now :)
