Hello,

Probably this question is easy for most of you, but I'm new on this...

I work with a cisco Access Server 2511 and we have two commands, which, for me, are very similar:

"Show running-config" and "show config"

When I send these commands they show different contents, however I don't know how to make them equal. Which is the difference between them?

Thanks a lot for any help.

Regards,
Miguel

I have books that say the config and the running-config are the same. However, whenever I make changes to the running-config they are not reflected in the config until I "wr mem" or "copy run start". Therefore, I believe it is appropriate to say that the "config" and "starting-config" are the same. In order to make the latter item equivalent to the "running-config" you must do the "wr mem". I believe that your router has a large number of unsaved changes in the config. If it's a production model you should save them. When you perform the "sh config" it should tell you at the top of the output when the last "wr mem" took place. I used to believe that the books by CCIEs were a lot better than the ones by MCSEs. However, that distinction is fading.
