"Physical database not found" when using multiple datasources

I am using Crystal Reports v8.0.1.18 with multiple databases in a single report. I can retrieve the data from each in isaolation but as soon as I combine them I get this error. One of my datasources is an Oracle v8.0.5 database, the others I have tried to link with this have been SQL 2000, Microsoft Access (2000) and Microsoft Excel (2000). in all cases the "Physical database not found error results".
Access and Excel I can link and get report results (as a test) but this does not really achieve the end goal.

I've experienced problems linking multiple datasources, my workaround was to link these tables through an Access database.
