"PCI.sys Missing or Corrupt" AAHHH!!!

My pc with my books on it has just crashed. When you try to boot to windows, it says that Windows could not start becasue the following file is missing or corrupt.

system32\drivers\pci.sys

Any ideas on saving my records on this pc?? i do have backup's but they are 4 days old. Trying to get around that if i can. I might just have to bite the bullet tho.

Oops, forgot. it is running windows xp home

well, that did not fix it, but i lead me to the problem. When i tried to boot from the xp cd. it gave me an error that went somthing like this:

Error 536821760 during Windows setup. press any key to cont.....bla bla bla

then i did a google search on it and hit this site:

So i did as it said, swapped some ram, and BANG, its back in.
