I have a problem with one of users when they recieve some Word attachments via email. On opening the file it displays e.g.:

"memo.doc is locked for editing by 'another
user'

Do you want to:
Open a Read Only Copy
Create a Local Copy and Merge Your Changes Later
Receive Notification When the Original Copy Is Available"

Why is this happening please?

hello-
That is just because it was sent as an attachment...
Just "Create a Local Copy" and they should be fine...
If not, they can alternate-click the file, select properties, and un-check the "Read-Only" box...
There may be a way to set up your Email so that they don't come in as "Read-Only" but I would need to know what kind of email program you are using...
hth~

Hi Boni.
We use Outlook 2003/Exchange 2003. The email was sent internally. We use a standard XP SP2 image that doesn't cause this problem, but unfortunately have two users that use PCs not based on this image. The email was sent from one to the other.

Many thanks.
