"Locked for editing" when trying to convert to PDF

One of my users (in a remote office) has just installed Adobe Acrobat so that he can convert his Word Newsletter to PDF format. The install went OK, but when he tries to do the actual conversion to PDF he gets an error that the file is "locked for editing" and it will not let him convert. (I believe he is running Word 97, Windows 98, Acrobat 5.0.) Any ideas?

Have someone using Acrobat 4.0 convert it.

Can the user edit the document without any problem? How is the user performing the conversion? With the Acrobat plug-in or launching Acrobat directly?

BTW, did the user restart the system after installing Acrobat?

Thanks for the advice, WindowsWizard. My user is trying to use the PDF Creator plug-in from Microsoft Word. He e-mailed the Word file to me and I was able to convert it fine. (Also using Acrobat 5.0 plug-in from Word.) I had him check all of the "Conversion Settings" under the Acrobat Toolbar in Word. His all matched mine.

Any other suggestions? It's tough when I can't actually see it in front of me. There's a lot of things I can think to try, but I don't want to waste his time having him try everything. I didn't ask about the reboot. However, he creates the newletter everyday, so he should be trying again today. And the file will have a different name, so that might help.

If you can think of any other reasons why this might be happening, please let me know. Thanks for the help.
