"Invalid Schedule File" popup, but where's the Schedule?

My reload of Windows98 SE and application programs to an eMachine worked smoothly until I tried installing the Visioneer 7600 USB scanner.

Problems occurred with the driver not being loaded, then with device conflicts against the OfficeJet x80 all-in-one.

After running out of ideas, I installed the Visioneer scanner to a different PC, and uninstalled the PaperPort software from the eMachine.

Now, whenever the eMachine reboots, a popup whines about an "Invalid Schedule File" and points to an ereg reminder beneath the old PaperPort installation directory. (Duh - Of cource it's invalid. The file was removed by the uninstall.)

Any ideas where this schedule and/or popup is hiding? I don't see it in the Task Scheduler or anything obvious in timestamped files.

Start>Run, type in 'msconfig' and hit Enter. Click on the Startup tab. Do you see this listed here? If so, uncheck and reboot. Does that take care of it?

If you don't see it listed there, is it in your Start Up folder on your Start menu (Start>Programs>Start Up)?

I had all kinds of problems when I got a Visioneer scanner a few years ago. I finally got to use it reliably after I downloaded new drivers from their website.

Another thing that might apply or at least check this out, as far as the conflict:

if they are both usb, check the 'select scanner' under the 'file' drop down menu, under Kodak Imaging, (open Kodak Im.) and select the device. this may help

Action

(1) deleted c:\program files\visioneer\ & its paperport subdirectory
(2) unchecked msconfig startup entry:
fbdirect C:\PROGRA~1\VISION~1\PAPERP~1\fbdirect.exe
(3) restarted computer

>>> Popup still appeared.

Action

(1) msconfig > general
(2) checked "Selective Startup" AND
unchecked the checked-but-greyed "Load Startup Group Items"
(3) restarted computer

>>> Popup gone, AND no group icons. I can live without the icons :-}.


By process of elimination, this ereg test and popup appear to be within the Startup Group Items load activity. How can I see more detail?

BTW - I tried the latest drivers and select source fun as part of the first machine's problems. All went well with installation on the second machine.

Re-check "Startup Group". In msconfig, uncheck everything. This is the same as un-checking "Startup Group". Now, re-check things one by one, rebooting in between. When you get the error, it is the last one you checked.
