Hello everyone.

I just started working for this business, and they have a Nortel/Meridian PBX. I have previous experience programming Nortel/Norstar but it's limited. Here's the issue I'm having:

The company currently has all the different groups setup through Answer DN. The issue with this is that even with internal calls through the IC, all the phones that are setup for Answer DN on that extension ring too. I advised them that we should set it up through Hunt Groups, as this would be more productive and not cause the aforementioned issue. They agreed.

I logged into the config menu, and went to system prgrming, and lo and behold the "hunt group" option wasn't there. I thought "no big deal, i've dealt with this before, let me go change the DN length to 3 or more".

I went to the DN length option, and to my suprise, it's set to 3 already.

If the DN length is already set to 3 or above, why isn't the hunt group option showing? I've looked everywhere thinking it might be in another place, and I can't find it at all.

just to clear any questions that might arrise:

I logged in as an installer.
I scrolled to system prgrming
i pressed show
the first thing that shows is DN Change

Any help would greatly be appreciated.

how do i know what version i have, and how do i upgrade?

Hunt Groups became available in 4.0, I think. Get yourself a software upgrade tool for your specific type of software, and upgrade to latest software or 4.0+

well the system version is 30ARE05 which translates to:

BNR Mics 2.0 Working Issue 4.05

Do I need to upgrade? is that what the problem is? which number shows my software version that i need to upgrade (the 2.0 or the 4.05)?

Also check and report here your voice mail version.
Log into F983 and press 9.

This will determine how far you can upgrade the phoe system without having to upgrade the voice mail also.

You would need to upgrade the Flashtalk to 1.9 or up if you upgrade KSU to 4.0

If you wish to go KSU up to the latest 7.1 then get a 2.0 upgrade for the Flashtalk.

i really appreciate everyone helping, but nobody has told me how it is exactly i upgrade. do i just download a firmware update and flash it? please help.

You will have to order an upgrade package through a Nortel vendor.

You need to purchase the Flash Card/Softwares.

I suggest you go with 7.1 (with NVRAM) KSU and 2.0 Flashtalk

KSU
You can by the upgrade kit (to keep programming) but I recommend you just re-program the system from scratch to get rid of any little bugs.
Power down system, swap NVRAM Cartridge and intsall new 7.1 software, boot system up and re-program.

Voice mail
Power Down
Pull out 1.7 software and replace with 2.0
Power Up

Log into F983 and press 9 to see version #

Parts required:
KSU 7.1 with NVRAM = NTPW0138
Flashtalk 2.0 = NT5B07AAAAN

Double check above with your vendor depending on your location and if XC is required (for PRI, Companion etc).

I forgot to mention....I was assuming your system is not all that big and why I mention to reprogram it, if it is big or near maxed out then get the vendor to do the upgrade....they will you their upgrade tool to keep your programming.

Along with what curlycord said, if your MICS already has, or may soon need 2 fiber expansion cards, make sure you get XC software.

thanks for all the help guys. i really appreciate it.
